Jenai's Journey
Jenai started our network by seeking friendship and guidance in her community. Though introverted and disabled, Jenai wanted to connect with like-minded women in Bastrop through small workshops and networking events. However, there were no official groups that met the criteria she hoped to find. So she created a space for other women to find her and each other. Today, Jenai is thriving in her role as the group's primary webmaster and is now giving back to the community by moderating all of Bastrop County Leftist Women’s Club's activities, meetings, get-togethers, volunteer opportunities, and workshops.
Chel's Initiative
Chelsea, or Chels, moved to Bastrop just under 2 years before joining the BCLW Club. As a new mom and living somewhat remotely, it has been challenging to find women who share similar values, perspectives, and concerns about the world around her. When she came across the BCLW Club, she joined immediately and was happy to discover a community of women who care about many of the same things she does. Simply knowing this community exists has made Chels feel less isolated.
She values having a space where women can connect, support one another, share ideas, speak up, and work toward meaningful change together.
Melissa's Story
Living with her husband and 2 adult sons on a rural acre in Cedar Creek, Melissa has lived here for twenty years, building a life rooted in nature, community care, and progressive values. Even though the political climate around her is often in conflict with her own values, she loves her home deeply—for the quiet, the space, and the sense of grounding it gives her. Melissa joined our club because she wanted to connect with like‑minded women and feel less alone as a progressive woman in a conservative county. She is finding new connections with local women who understand what it feels like to hold strong values in a place where they aren’t always reflected. The friendships she's making and shared support have helped Melissa feel more seen in this rural community we all love.
